A hard pant, etched from her lips as the scorned female lifted her head to the figure in front of her. She puckered her lips, angrily, scowling at him, words echoed from her throat as she finally opened her mouth. “You lied to me.”
“Because you would have left me…Like now.” The male groaned, his stomach felt like it was going to drop out of him, all his blood rushed to his head, as his heart began to beat rapidly. It was making him more uncomfortable by the second. He lifted his eye brows in a pleading way as he stepped closer to her, to reason with her. Something he knew she wasn’t going to understand.
“I can’t stay with you. You know it, ever since you first let the doctor inject you. Your poison to me now.” she stated, her throat tightened, tears welded in her eyes but remained stationary. She was now feeling more emotional than ever, but this was the only way to protect them both. Too much had been happening lately in the world, and getting contaminated was the last thing she wanted, even if meant sacrificing her heart. “I’m going to my aunt’s, and this’ll be the last time you hear from me. Good bye Mac.” And with that, she turned and left. Her strut less then formal, but her composure was kept together. Her crying would have to wait, something she would be doing a lot more. The name still seemed to consume her mind, breaking her heart, leaving her breathless. Their love started this way, she thought, we were too good for each other, she admitted, but that was in the past, all behind her now, she assumed.
The plane jerked as they came in for their final descent, down on San Francisco. She held onto the arm rests on her sides, her eyes closed as she waited for the whole event to be over. Lifting her head slightly, the news video came on again. It was the same one everyone had memorized, the video that had caused her world to spin, to fall, to break.
The President stood at his podium, staring down, looking more frustrated than anyone would have realized the news had made him. Slightly raising his head he stared at the screen and raised his voice calmly, “My fellow Americans, it has come to our attention that the recent vaccine that has been passed through numerous states has many inhuman side effects. We ask that those who have taken it, hoping of curing the Swine Flu crisis, would come into the Police Stations and local Hospitals immediately. Countless others that have been affected were put under quaritine earlier today. Don’t be alarmed, it isn’t contagio—.” Sarah turned quickly before he could finish. Her disgust wasn’t hidden when she looked out her window at the city. Her thoughts uncontained, as she whispered to herself.
“You liar, if you hadn’t told them it wasn’t contagious, so many cities and people wouldn’t have died. It was unleashed like a plague,” she paused for a moment, recounting her emphasis on the word plague. How could this happen, she thought? Why would anyone let such horrible thing happen to people like that. So many people were infected and so many people died by the ‘lagued’ raging attacks. They seemed like a race, a new species that would finish everything. She was sure that leaving her city to go to a state that hadn’t taken the vaccine would be safer then Ohio, but she wasn’t going to be ready for more disappointment.
The speed of her aunt’s car was constant against the cement as the Honda van cruised down the night road, the head lights only showing so much. Sarah relaxed against the leather seats, feeling exhausted and wasted from the long travel. Finally her eyes closed and she was asleep for a moment, before the silence was abruptly ruined as the car’s window was unexpectedly crashed against. Blood covered the view, ripped corrupted skin spread over the last part of the front view, before the van finally crashed against another vehicle sending both passengers against the dashboard violently, killing Sarah’s aunt instantly. Sarah’s eyes burned as she lay against the hard surface, her leg was broken for sure, and the pain felt mind blowing, as she struggled to shift out. Her side window was gone as she felt for the door, but found it totally ripped off its hinges. The click of her seat belt released, allowing her to fall onto her back against the hard cold ground. She leaned against the side of the upturned van, her cranium ached as she tried to search for anything close, for her vision was totally useless now. Her head twisted slightly as she saw a figure move closer, its image blurred but certain things she could make out. It was broad, tall, and hunched over her now, its hot breath blew against her neck and chin. She moaned softly lifting her eyes to the figure before he grabbed hold of her neck and heaved her up roughly, her feet dangled. Her lungs and system began to lose control and slowly shut down as the lack of air left her body clinging for life. Her eyes widened for something she’d never expect but something she couldn’t do anything about, it was a creature, not even a human. Its skin seemed scorched with the disease, his body misshapen and rotting. He growled softly, before he yanked her to him, holding her by his body, which was burning cold. Finally a groan, and another sound, before she finally realized it was talking to her and words breathed against her left ear, “You were the poison.” Her body tensed as a sharp pain erupted through her body as she felt his fierce fangs rip against her neck, and left her bleeding uncontrollably, her life line was fading quickly and then it was gone. And like that moment where she fell in love with him and her life began, figuratively, Mac’s name was the last to mark the end of her life.
